Skyscrapers of the forest

Getting into the Redwoods is like a trip to a childhood, when everything was big, tall and important. The Humboldt Redwoods took our breath away. It was truly a huge thing on our way.

The scientific name for these trees translates as “ever-living”. Well, if not ever then at least “veeery-long-living”. On our trail we bumped onto 1600 years old tree. Imagine that is 37 stories tall and it takes 10 people to actually hug it. They also say that grown redtree produces over 100000 cones a year. What a happy family of squirrels must be living on it!

But once in a while those giant trees fall. Rain and wind do its job. That moment when the vacant spot in the sky appears little redwood trees start their competition for a place under the sun. First come – first served.

The infrastructure – free maps, gift shops, information centers, campsites, restrooms, parking and all kinds of trails even accessible for a wheelchairs – it is only takes to name it to realize that they know how to bring together visitors and the nature.

"No wood picking" - says the note at the Park entrance :)

  2. Thank you taxpayers of all the state parks in the US. I'm glad my taxes go to keep places like this safe for people from all over the world to see. Otherwise there would be some awful looking condo or shopping center instead of 5000 years of natural beauty!
